Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

This page describes how content on TravelItinerary.at is researched, written, fact-checked, updated, and corrected. It exists because Google’s E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness) framework — and any reasonable reader — deserves transparency about the editorial process.

How I research itineraries

  1. Two trips per city minimum before publication: one during peak season (school holidays / summer / fall foliage / etc., depending on city) and one off-peak.
  2. On-the-ground notes in a paper notebook, transcribed nightly. Wait times, prices, weather, and reservation policies all dated.
  3. Confirmation calls to restaurants and tour operators within 48 hours of publication for price and policy accuracy.

How I use AI

AI tools (Anthropic Claude, DeepSeek) help with: – Compiling and organizing my raw notes into the standard itinerary format – Generating image-description alt text from photos I took – Drafting boilerplate sections (FAQ pages, breadcrumb structure)

AI does not: – Choose recommendations – Make up restaurants, prices, or wait times – Write in my voice without my review

Every published post passes through my hands before it goes live. I read it line by line, fix anything that sounds machine-generated, and add the asides and corrections that make it sound like me.

Fact-checking

  • All quoted prices are dated (e.g., “$28 in October 2024”). I update prices each season.
  • Hotel and tour links use my affiliate codes; whether or not a place is included is independent of whether the affiliate program exists.
  • Phone numbers, opening hours, and reservation URLs are verified within 48 hours of publication.

Updates and corrections

  • Each post displays a “Last updated” date.
  • Corrections are noted at the bottom of the affected post with a date and a one-line description of what changed.
  • Major changes (restaurant closure, big price jump) trigger a full re-walk during my next visit to the city.

Pen-name disclosure

“Amanda McCallister” is a pen-name. The author is a single individual operating under that name for editorial consistency across posts. Press inquiries about the real-name author can be answered case-by-case via the contact page.

Conflicts of interest

  • I do not accept paid placements in itineraries. Hotels and tours appear only if I’d recommend them anyway.
  • I do accept affiliate commissions on bookings made through my links. See affiliate disclosure.
  • I do not run sponsored posts. Sponsored content, if I ever publish any, will be clearly labeled “Sponsored” in the post title and within the first paragraph.
